I am exercising my first amendment right to petition the government. Instead of demanding redress of grievances, I am using my rights to urge the soon-to be inaugurated president to read more and open his mind. I am sending him one postcard every day for a year, beginning on January first, ahead of the inauguration. All of the postcards include material that I present to or discuss with my students at the North Branch School. The daily missives are a pot pourri of philosophical conundrums; important historical facts or events; theological questions; poems or passages from important texts; or examinations of significant artistic achievements. It is my hope that some of these postcards will make into into the hands of the President and help him embrace the life of the mind and the spirit of inquiry.
